NAVFAC Washington goes for the Gold!

NAVFAC Washington is pleased to accept their first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The Surface Sensors and Combat Systems Facility of the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division on the Naval Support Facility, Dahlgren, Virginia received a LEED GOLD certification. The Haskell Company was the design-builder for this new facility. Haskell’s integrated design-build approach ensured that the government received a quality facility, which was safely delivered six months ahead of schedule and ultimately met the stringent requirements of the USGBC GOLD Certification (exceeding contract requirements).

The USGBC developed the LEED Green Building Rating System. The system promotes design and construction practices that meet specified standards, resolving much of the negative impact of buildings on their occupants and on the environment.

The nearly 59,000 SF building employs about 130 people. Work being done at Navy sites in San Diego, CA and Charleston, SC was moved to the Dahlgren site as part of the BRAC 2005 mandate. This GOLD certified facility will be an exceptional resource for Navy scientists and engineers well into the future.
