U.S. Army Lt. General “Mac” McKnight, former Commandant of the Signal Corps
will be addressing a gathering of business leaders, educators and technology
experts at One World Trade Center in Portland, Oregon on Tuesday, Jan. 15th.
Currently the Chairman of the Community Learning and Information Network, he
will address the need for a coordinated educational platform for the National
Guard’s Distributive Training Program (DTTP,) one of the Federal Government’s
success stories in distance learning. General McKnight was also invited to
discuss his forthcoming book From Pigeons to Tweets which will be published on
that date.
Hosting
the gathering is GQG a firm with deep expertise in many B2B and B2C categories,
including technology, telecommunications and education, three of Gen.
McKnight’s areas of expertise.
His
book From Pigeons to Tweets tells his story from the time when he, as a young
West Point lieutenant assigned to the Signal Corps on the Korean battlefield,
found pigeons his communications backup and thought there were greater
possibilities. His thinking took him up to the lofty rank of lieutenant general
and the development of the first computer technology for warfare demonstrated
in Desert Storm.
Following
the Portland address he will go to Seattle’s Living Computer Museum on January
17th. He will be the principal speaker at a gathering of Microsoft alumni. Gen.
McKnight was an important leader in the development of computer technology in
the military which led to broad civilian usage in civilian education, an area
