Navy Awarding Up to $100K for Innovative Ideas, Technology

Got an innovative idea or technology for the Office of Naval Research (ONR)? You could be the recipient of up to $100,000 for further development.

This year, ONR will collect and review white papers for the Chief of Naval Research Challenge at the 2010 Naval Science & Technology Partnership Conference funding of up to $100K. To qualify, simply bring your paper to the conference and submit it in person.

Since 2008, ONR has awarded $2 million in research grants to applicants who submitted proposals during one of its premier conferences or forums.

Here’s how it works:

Using the white paper format provided, submit your idea at the conference at the designated collection point. White papers must include the following information:

■Presentation title

■Author’s name, title, organization, phone and fax numbers, e-mail and mailing addresses

■Applicable ONR department, or code, and point of contact

■Limited explanation of no more than 500 words. Your submission should clearly indicate the program and/or research area you are addressing; describe your deliverable (e.g., study, prototype, proof-of-concept paper, etc.), approach and timeline; and outline how your idea supports the Naval Science and Technology Strategic Plan (along with any potential non-military applications, if applicable).

Once received on site, ONR will provide you with a receipt acknowledging your submission. Entries will be reviewed after the conference with all submissions evaluated based on individual merit, applicability, relation to naval energy and research needs. Concepts that do not fit in with ONR departmental needs will not be accepted.

Visit the 2010 Chief of Naval Research Challenge website for more details.
