NSWC Indian Head Division's Earle Detachment Recognized for Safety

April 22, 2010 - COLTS NECK, N.J. (NNS) -- Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division's (NSWC IHD) Earle, N.J., detachment will be recognized by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development May 5 with a Citation of Merit Award for a superior safety record.

The state's citation of merit is annually awarded to companies, facilities or departments that have worked through the calendar year without a work-related injury or illness. NSWC IHD Earle Detachment's Packaging, Handling, Storage and Transportation Center employs 65 full-time employees, and has gone 2,150 days, or 5.9 years, without a lost-time injury.

"We try to maintain a safety culture where everyone is involved," said NSWC IHD Earle Detachment Director, Kenneth Zimms. "Safety is paramount, and we're proud of this award."

The Annual Governor's Occupational Safety and Health awards program is in its 82nd year. The awards program is conducted under the New Jersey State Industrial Safety Committee, in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development and the New Jersey State Safety Council.

The detachment will receive its award at a dinner to be held at the Buttonwood Manor in Matawan, N.J.

NSWC IHD, Earle Detachment is responsible for delivering energetics to the warfighters. The detachment's safety culture ensures this mission is met on, or ahead of, schedule. NSWC IHD is the nation's premier resource for energetics technology, development and innovation. Seventy-five percent of the explosives deployed in U.S. weaponry since 1985 have been developed by NSWC IHD.
