‘Brunch Patrol' Invites Cops to Dine for Free in Normandy School Cafeterias

The Normandy Schools Collaborative in suburban St. Louis has invited nine municipal police departments and the University of Missouri-St. Louis police to join students for free breakfast and lunch through the new ‘Brunch Patrol’ program. The goal of the program is to generate positive interactions between officers and students.

Lenexa Police Host ‘Use of Force’ Workshop for Local Law Enforcement Officers

The Force Science Institute, an organization that studies police use of force, recently provided instruction on the psychological, physiological and biomechanical aspects of force in a workshop hosted by the Lenexa (Kan.) Police Department. The goal of the course is to help officers recognize how to recognize and work with their own limitations when called on to use force in the course of performing their duties.

Mass. Sheriffs Respond to Corrections Officer Suicides

A sample suicide-prevention policy that would make peer support teams, employee assistance programs and critical incident teams available to corrections officers is in the planning stages in Massachusetts. Sheriff's departments across the state are collaborating on the effort, after a state commission found that at least 16 corrections officers had taken their own lives in the past decade. The special commission created by the state Legislature to study the prevention of suicide among 3,800 Bay State correction officers found that life expectancy for prison guards nationwide has hit an alarming low.
