Officials announce AFA aerospace award winners

RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas –The Air Force has selected the following individuals and units as nominees to compete for the Air Force Association Aerospace Awards. The specific category and respective nominees are as follows:

Theodore Von Karman Award -- for the most outstanding contribution to national defense in the field of science and engineering relating to aerospace activity by an Air Force military member, Department of the Air Force civilian, unit or group of individuals.

Lt. Col. Timothy Sands, Pacific Air Forces

2nd Weather Group, Air Force Weather Agency

Maj. Walter Sykes, Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency

David C. Schilling Award -- for the most outstanding contribution to national defense in the field of manned flight in the atmosphere or space by an Air Force military member, Department of the Air Force civilian, unit or group of individuals.

380th Air Expeditionary Wing, Air Combat Command

Project Liberty Team, Air Force Material Command

8th Special Operations Squadron, Air Force Special Operations Command

Gill Robb Wilson Award -- for the most outstanding contribution to national defense in the field of arts and letters covering a range of activities such as writing, speaking, media relations, sculpting and painting, by an Air Force military member, Department of the Air Force civilian, unit or group of individuals.

Maj. Warren Neary, Air Force Global Strike Command

Lt. Col. Gabriel Lajeunesse, Air Force Office of Special Investigations

4th Combat Camera Squadron, Air Force Reserve Command

Citation of Honor -- for the most outstanding contribution to national defense significantly exceeding standard performance by an Air Force military member, Department of the Air Force civilian, unit or group of individuals.

6th Field Investigations Squadron, AFOSI

The AFA will present the awards to the final winners during the Air & Space Conference and Technology Exposition 2010 this September in Washington, D.C.

Each of the military nominees and members of small teams is authorized the Air Force Recognition Ribbon. Each of the civilian nominees is authorized the Air Force Recognition Lapel Pin.
