Space and Missile Pioneer - Captain Robert C. Truax (USN)

11/5/2012 - Peterson AFB, Colo.  -- As we celebrate Air Force Space Command's 30th Anniversary we recognize individuals who played a significant role in the history of the Air Force space and missile programs - our Air Force Space and Missile Pioneers ...

Captain Robert C. Truax (USN) began experimenting with liquid-fueled rocket engines while at the Naval Academy in 1936. Frustrated with the Navy's progress in large-scale rocket development, he was assigned to the Air Force's Western Development Division in 1955. There, he played an instrumental role in the early stages of intermediate-range ballistic missile and military satellite system development.
