Technicians Prepare Atlantis, Astronauts Come to Florida

At NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, science technicians working at Launch Pad 39A will replace part of space shuttle Atlantis' Window Contamination Control System, or WCCS. After borescope inspections were performed Thursday and an engineering review board was held Friday to discuss the findings, a decision was made to remove and replace the left outboard WCCS desiccant. Repairs are expected to be completed prior to next week's tanking test and are not expected to delay Atlantis' targeted launch on the final shuttle mission on July 8. The STS-135 crew members will fly to Kennedy today to look over part of the payload they will deliver to the International Space Station. While in Florida, Commander Chris Ferguson and Pilot Doug Hurley also will practice landings in Shuttle Training Aircraft.
